The American Mastermind

Linked to this misconception is another misconception that earth s seasons are as a result of the distance of the earth from the sun. It is a common misconception that the equator is hotter due to it being closer to the sun than other areas of the earth.

Why Are Places Located Near The Equator Hotter Quora

The equator is hotter than other areas of the earth such as the poles because it receives more direct sunlight than other areas.

Why is the equator so hot. On the equator the sun rays fall straight where as on either side of the equator they fall at an angle. Convection currents in the atmosphere cause wind patterns that move heat from the equator toward the poles. The equator would become very hot and the poles become even colder.

One of the most common misconceptions is that the regions at or near the equator are hotter than the poles because the equator is closer to the sun than other areas of the earth. This happens because the earth circles around the sun on a tilted axis. Why is the equator so hot.

So that would mean that the sun rays falling straight on earth are hotter than the rays falling in a slanting way. Solar energy drives equator weather patterns absorbing heat into thunderstorms and transferring heat from the atmosphere to the ocean as rain. It is because the sun remains almost directly overhead everyday.

Countries that are further north or south of the equator experience a change in seasons when hot weather follows cold weather.
